Make Your Own Celebration

Like George Washington, I cannot tell a lie…. I wish I could tell you that I have been working on a brilliant post and it was taking me weeks to perfect, but alas, no. Honestly, I have been feeling very “blah” lately. I’m sure there are many contributing factors, but the main one being that I cannot believe we are still social distancing  and masking up in August. “March/April-Sarah” could never have imagined!

Now, more than ever, I think it’s important to make your own celebrations. I have mentioned this before (see point 27 from my birthday post), but now it seems more relevant than ever.

Here are a few of our favorite “celebrations”

  • Chick Fil A Tuesdays – Not so much a celebration, but a fun necessity. We have small group on Tuesday nights and eating take out makes our evening so much smoother. Since we try to eat most of our meals at home, grabbing food always feels exciting to me.
  • Starbucks Friday – A simple reward for a long week.
  • Honeymoon Booking Day – The day that
The first Honeymoon Booking day – December 2, 2011
    Wes booked our honeymoon

(December 2, 2011) we “celebrated” by grabbing a pizza. We were running errands out of town so we decided to go into Pizza Hut and sit down and chat and eat. Well, it turns out the Pizza Hut did not have a sit-down area so we ended up sitting at a little table in the lobby storefront that was meant for people waiting to pick up their pizza. Ever since then we have eaten Pizza Hut on December 2nd.

  • Movie Night Friday – Pop some popcorn and grab the candy. Another fun way to mark the end of a long week. If you want to make it extra special then pick up some popcorn from a local movie theater – no shame in our game!
  • June 19th – It’s no secret that Wes and I
    This is 30
share a birthday, along with my mother-in-law (shout-out to Nancy). We decided a while ago to just throw our own celebrations. Typically we go on a mini-vacation and explore a new city. However, we have also thrown ourselves a 30th birthday party, which I HIGHLY recommend. Life is too short to wait for people to throw you a party!

Another fun way to celebrate the everyday is to look at the National Day Calendar.  National Prosecco Day? National Ice Cream Pie Day? Sign me up!

What fun “holidays” do you celebrate? I would love to add to my list!

  1. Loved your post! My favorite is for sure my birthday! I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to do. I like to call it my Birthday Week! I celebrate by eating cake and ice cream all week. I shop and treat myself to at least one frivolous item.

Another fun celebration was “The Autumn of Kim.” This time came right after planning two weddings, three graduations, empty nesting, and a move to North Augusta. I did things I’d always wanted to do.

    Took cake decorating classes.
    Rescued a dog.
    Splurged on my hair.
Met up with friends at the drop of a dime.
Binge watched Breaking Bad without worry that it was a setting a bad example for the kids(they were gone, remember?)
Started writing a book that I’d thought about for years.

Let us hear your thoughts!
