Good Morning and Good Night

Have you ever thought about how you wake up your home? Perhaps how you put it to sleep? While it’s a strange and somewhat odd thing to think about, in reality, your house goes through two significant transitions everyday. It wakes up in the morning and closes down before bed in the evening. For most people, I believe this is something that is done instinctually. I may be incorrect, but I don’t think a lot of people roll out of bed, stretch, and say good morning to the curtains (coffee pot, yes, curtains, no).

Good Morning Sunshine

For me, my house wake up routine starts like this:

1) Open all of the blinds in the central parts of the house

2) Turn on the lights in the living room

3) Light my favorite candle (Marshmallow Fireside)

4) Turn on the Keurig (give me ALL of the caffeine)

5) Turn on the news at a low volume

6) Make my bed

A bright house is very important to me, which is why I open the blinds and flip on every light in the house as soon as it is socially acceptable, much to my husband’s dismay. While sitting in my bright house, I love to listen to the little stirrings of a house waking up. The birds chirping outside (makes me sound very nature-y), the flickering candle, the coffee brewing, my babies talking in their beds, and the cat meowing incessantly for food (okay, maybe not that one). It’s basically the quiet before the storm of the day.

Goodnight Sleepyhead

Putting my house to sleep is just as satisfying as waking it up because I have my comfy bed and Netflix as a reward at the end of the race.

1) Close the blinds

2) Turn off the overhead lights and turn on the table lamps

3) Do a 5-10 minute power pick up to remove the clutter of the day

4) Lock all of the doors

5) Prepare my bed for sleep

Have you thought about how you wake up your house and close it up at night? Do you turn on music or a podcast? Do you open windows for fresh air? I want to hear about it! Let me know about your routine in the comments.

  1. LOVE THIS!!! I’ve never actually thought about it but, there are those 5 or 6 things I do every morning and every night. Such a great thought.

    1. Thank you! Yes! I feel like acknowleging those few things has helped me set a routine that encourages the day instead of loathing the day. Miss you! Love seeing your family grow!
