Not Today Satan, Not Today

Happy New Year

After all of the hope and anticipation of 2021, my new year started off with me quarantined in my room with Covid while I listened to my children play and laugh outside my door (coupled with the occasional “mama” and tiny fingers sliding under my door). Not exactly the way I pictured our “fresh start” of a new year beginning – locked in my room, alone, with a 1000-piece cat puzzle.

This quarantine has taken so much from me, but it has afforded me the ability to think (and floss – my dentist will be proud).

To me, there aren’t appropriate words to describe the destruction and chaos this virus has caused. (Let’s be honest, there are words, but my mom and grandma read this blog – hi!) We know that the enemy (Satan) comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Isn’t that what Covid is doing? Isn’t it stealing our joy? Isn’t it killing our friends and family? Isn’t it destroying our peace and community with others? I see all of that, and more, in my own life.

I feel the judgemental climate.

I feel the separation from community.

I feel the fear of the unknown.

Not today Satan, not today.

I will NOT let you steal my joy. I will NOT let you kill my spirit. I will NOT let you destroy my family.

Today I pray for safety, and strength, and joy, and peace, and all the things that Covid is trying to take away from us. May you see the victories in your life and celebrate them.

I’m gonna see a victory
I’m gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to you Lord
I’m gonna see a victory
I’m gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to you Lord

You take what the enemy meant for evil
And you turn it for good
You turn it for good
You take what the enemy meant for evil
And you turn it for good
turn it for good
